What's up with below freezing temps in California for 8 days straight? I've lived here in the mountains of NorCal for over 34 years, so I'm not surprised, of course, because we've had very mild winters and very cold winters and everything-in-between winters.
If you look closely, you can see a stone that I tossed onto our frozen lake.
Here's a close-up of it:
...just to prove that the lake was frozen over. It was about one-half inch thick ice.
A piece of wood partly frozen in the ice
debris frozen under the ice
I like the golden colors of the dormant weeping willow trees in the winter.

glad you linked this post to both! the findings under the frozen ice are always fascinating to me. very cool.
Love the blue frozen ice!
Great pictures!! I never think of California having frozen water:)
The colours are very pretty. No doubts about frozen water here.We have been in a deep freeze the last while.
Our last hard winter was in 2008. This year so far is a mild one. I always worry about the snow pack for summer water. - Margy
Couldn't agree with you more -even in Southern Cal where I live it has been colder than ever!
wow...freezing here too, but that's to be expected, January in NH... great photos!
I'm glad you linked this to both memes, two, Pat!! Really terrific captures and the ice is beautiful! I love the colors!! Hope you have a great weekend!! Stay warm!!
I got in trouble as a kid for throwing rocks out onto a frozen lake. I'm glad you are such a rebel.
Nice pictures. Wish you a good weekend :)
That's a really beautiful little lake!
I hope it is frozen enough to do some sliding or some skating : the set seems perfect for that !
Great series of photos to remind us of our unusual winter. My brother-in-law in Santa Barbara said it never gets down to 28 degrees there, most unusual. I guess we've been spoiled a bit w/ our warm SoCal weather. Been enjoying lots of wood fires in the fireplace. Congrats on the up-coming summer blessing!
Tsuki: The lake only has one-half inch of ice on it around the edges. It would never freeze thickly enough for anyone to slide or skate on. That would require much colder temps for a longer period of time, which just doesn't happen here!
brrrrrrrrrrrrr ca donne froid ;o)
