Skywatch over Eilat, Israel

December 7, 2012, found us enjoying the pleasant temperature, sky and water at Eilat, Israel. We stayed one night at the Orchid Hotel & Resort at the shore...of the Gulf of Aqaba, part of the Red Sea. As you can see by the Google Earth maps below, Eilat is at the southernmost tip of Israel.
Israel's shoreline on the Gulf of Aqaba is only about 4 or 5 miles long, but despite that short shoreline, Eilat is a busy port city. All new automobiles coming out of the Far East, headed for the Middle East and Europe, come through the Gulf of Aqaba and then into the port of Eilat. Then they are transported by trucks through Israel and loaded onto ships headed across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.
The Orchid Hotel & Resort is a few miles southwest of the city of Eilat. It's built right into the mountains, so golf carts take guests up to their rooms.
A view from our bus of the sky over the mountains of the Negev Desert. This was taken as our bus traveled along Highway 90 which goes from Metulla, close to the norhernmost point of Israel, south to Eilat, close to the southernost tip of Israel.
The beach near the Orchid Hotel & Resort where Jerry went snorkeling and I waded in the water.
Did we...ride a camel back to the hotel?....drive a snazzy blue car back to the hotel? No, we walked.
The Orchid Hotel & Resort--a beautiful place with all the amenities....The day was crisp and clear...temps in the 70 degree (F) range. I highly recommend the Orchid Hotel & Resort in Eilat, Israel!

See other skies around the world at SkywatchFriday. Thank you, Sylvia and Sandy for keeping up this site!
