On Monday, April 5th, I was delighted when I spotted a new brood of goslings with one of the goose couples. They were enjoying an outing on a level portion of our property right by the lake. The four new little ones were fiercely protected by their parents. As soon as mom and dad spotted me, about 30 yards away, they started moving their new little family toward the lake at the bottom of our hill.
So I had to take the photos from afar and then sharpen them with PhotoShop and crop them. Mother Goose goose steps toward the safety of the lake, followed by her four young ones, followed by dad. I think that's the placement of mom and dad. Now I can see where the phrase "goose stepping" comes from.
Down they go to the lake, in a line, bounded by mom and dad.
The goslings are quite good little paddlers already.
They're on their way home to the safety of their nest.See other fascinating and beautiful places at My World Tuesday, hosted by Klaus, Ivar, Sandy, Wren, and Fishing Guy.

This should be fun,to watch this family grow up.

Babies! I love 'em.
Yeah... those parent geese can get pretty protective. Have you ever approached them and freaked them out - accidentally, of course? They're scary!
Thanks for visiting - lovely shots of the little goslings. I also read your earthquake post - amazing how many there have been recently!
Michelle: I freak them out every time I walk down our hill toward the road and the lake, if they're anywhere near. They flap away with loud honking if I come within 30 or 40feet of them. It's quite a noisy retreat every single time.
