Serenity

This is where I live, right beside this man-made lake, Oak Lane Reservoir.

The Canada geese have paired off and are preparing for the arrival of their new little families...
...and the ducks have, too.

Unwearied still, lover by lover,
They paddle in the cold
Companionable streams or climb the air;
Their hearts have not grown old;
Passion or conquest, wander where they will,
Attend upon them still.
But now they drift on the still water,
Mysterious, beautiful;
Among what rushes will they build,
By what lake’s edge or pool
Delight men’s eyes when I awake some day
To find they have flown away?
(from "The Wild Swans at Coole" by William Butler Yeats)
The lone swan swims serenely far away from the ducks and geese.

Swans keep to themselves, regal and aloof.
It's a peaceful coexistence.
The single swan must be amused at this annual flurry of courtship among his duck and goose cousins.
The trees are in their winter beauty,
The woodland paths are dry,
Under the February daylight the water
Mirrors a still sky...

(changed from autumn, October and twilight)
...and the swan is content...
...to be alone and serene.
