Mr. and Mrs. Goose

Three days after having snow, the world of Garden Valley is back to its normal March weather, cloudy, at least today. As I go on my daily walk along Oak Lane, I've been noticing a goose sitting on her nest in our neighbor's meadow with her gander always nearby. This is the first year I've seen geese nesting in the pasture a quarter mile from the lake (Oak Lane Reservoir). I think it's due to a Canada Goose population explosion. Where's a goose couple going to have their goslings when all the prime real estate is already spoken (honked) for?!
No matter what time of day I walk past this meadow, I've seen the two of them there. They're staying close to home now that the birth of their little ones is imminent, well away from the hustle and bustle of the lake. Now I know what some of those goose fights were about at the lake. There was much honking and flapping of wings in a very aggressive manner in the past week or two....It was about TERRITORY.
So this goose couple (I call them Sam and Delilah) was driven out, but they have the last laugh...They have plenty of grass and other greenery to eat in this extensive meadow, so it's perfet---life in the 'burbs.
...with plenty of room for expansion. Sam is keeping his head up, alert for any danger lurking nearby as Delilah hunts for the most tender shoots of grass and weeds for her sensitive stomach.

Awww, how sweet. And isn't it great that their place in the 'burbs gave them more space and isn't even a fixer upper. The commute though... that's always the downfall. How soon until it's congested all the way out there, too?

I would prefer that more ummm foxes or something help with that congestion problem!

Michelle: I know, the commute will be the killer, especially with 4 or 5 little slowly waddling goslings....down Oak Lane for a quarter of a mile.

Pat
Saw Jerry at school today and asked him if he's seen any baby geese over by the pond? This is the second year we have had goslings hatch. She has a nest on a utility trailer that's 11ft high and has a birds eye view of what we are doing. Last year she hatched 6 this year we had 4 and it's a hoot watching them jump down while she's honking encouragement to them. I'm glad you have seen them and enjoy.
