This is what we found when we came home from our 10-day vacation in Oregon:

Giant squash and cucumbers had taken over our house. They were sitting in our chairs and sofa watching TV like they owned the place.
The crooknecks were cozy in one of the gliders:

The big zuke started getting really friendly with a couple of cute cukes:

Armenian cukes were all over another big zucchini:

And what were they watching on TV?

Our local PBS station airing a show about the great agriculture of the central valley of California.
I suppose they wanted out of this hick town in the mountains and were wishing for the big spreads of the central valley.
At any rate, I picked them all up and measured them because I was so aghast at their size. They gave up without a struggle because they are such couch potatoes:

And the Armenian cucumber looked lovely sliced up and presented on a white plate...scalloped pale green edges. It tasted good, too…no bitterness in the peel.

I threw them in the fridge:

Then I picked the worst offender and chopped it up:

Then I marinated the offending squash...

with teriyaki sauce, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and grated fresh ginger:
After a couple of hours, onto the BBQ grill they went for 15 minutes or so…

…and at last onto our plates along with some BBQ'd tri-tip, fresh-picked white corn-on-the-cob, and fried green tomatoes from our garden …a very tasty end to this tale.

Take tours all around the world at My World Tuesday.

That's hilarious. How fun to come how to that -- and how yummy. I love the marinating idea before grilling them. yum!
