A beachy day in Newport Oregon

Yesterday, after a Schooner Landing pancake and sausage breakfast, we spent the morning as we usually do at Newport, OR, walking on the beach for exercise and looking at the critters in the tide pools at low tide. It was a foggy, misty day, so unfortunately, the pictures of the sea anemones and starfish turned out very dull and lackluster, so I omitted them. I'm sure you've all seen a zillion photos of anemones and starfish anyway. So I've mostly include "Jerry in front of" and "Pat in front of" photos.
Jerry in front of the tide pools and the Pacific Ocean at low tide. You can see what a gray, overcast day it was, but the temp was about 65, so it was perfect for walking on the beach.

Me in front of the same...You may think, how boring just walking on the beach. But I find it very relaxing and fun, especially when it's with Jerry because he cracks me up and he is very thoughtful about such things as carrying my shoes for me (as well as his and also the camera) the whole time. He also finds the easiest way over and around the tide pools for us barefoot people.

We found this cluster of maroon and orange starfish stuck on a rock...a veritable village of invertebrates. Did you know that a starfish in the wild can live up to 35 years? Remember that the next time you're playing Trivial Pursuit.

Welcome to my world.

Tres amigos....I am so disappointed that the colors all came out so dull, even with a flash.

I'm in front of the sheer cliff that borders the beach. Don't get caught on this beach at high tide, because the waves come right up to the cliffs. Most of the resorts and condos used to have stair/ladders that come down to the beach, but last winter the storms were particularly severe and washed out nearly all of them, including Schooner Landing's stairs. We take an alternate route to the beach now that doesn't involve stair/ladders.

These yellow-flowered shrubs cling tenaciously to the sheer rocky cliff. It's amazing where plants can grow---right out of rock in the tiniest of cracks.

This is the alternate route up to our condo at Schooner Landing--climbing up a gradually-sloping hillside.

This is the view from Schooner Landing's clubhouse where we returned and had a nice cup of hot coffee.

Hope your summer is rolling along smoothly with just enough challenges to keep it interesting!
